Airports are ready for your next journey

North American airports are committed to protecting passengers and airport workers and limiting the spread of COVID-19.

North American airports responded quickly to COVID-19 by establishing enhanced health and sanitation protocols that include much more frequent cleaning, with an intense focus on “touch points” in public areas and restrooms, more and upgraded cleaning supplies, additional hand sanitizers in airport public areas for passengers and employees, and additional education and training for airport employees and contractors. Many of the practices will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Hand Sanitizer Stations.

Airports across the United States and Canada have deployed countless hand sanitizer dispensers throughout airport terminals. Look for hand sanitizer dispensers in high traffic areas, like before and after security checkpoints and near gate areas.

Physical Distance.

Airports have installed increased signage to encourage passengers to maintain physical distance when at the airport.  Look up, down and around for signage. Listen/look for announcements.  Airports may have had to relocate or reconfigure some areas of the airport – including reducing seating in the terminal – to help passengers observe physical distance.  Airports have also installed plastic guards and shields throughout the airport to further protect passengers and airport workers.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, airports have deployed enhanced cleaning protocols, upgraded cleaning solutions, developed innovative technologies, and implemented sanitization strategies to ensure the health and safety of the traveling public and airport workers.

Touchless Technology.

Airports are working with their airline, concessions, retail, and other business partners to improve technology throughout the airport to empower passengers as they use their mobile devices to reduce touchpoints in the terminal.  From enhancing Wi-Fi and providing for mobile ordering and payments, passengers can expect to see more touchless technology on their journey.

Collaboration with Airport Partners.

Airport restaurants, bars, retailers, and other service providers are implementing a broad array of strategies to promote health and safety while you enjoy your journey in the airport.  Restaurants, bars, and retail shops might reduce capacity to allow for physical distancing.  Some might offer only take-away food options.  You can also expect to see plastic guards and shields separating you from cashiers or servers to promote health and safety.

Coordination with Government Agencies.

Airports appreciate the strong partnership they have with the many government and regulatory agencies that operate at the airport to ensure health, safety, and security.  Airports are actively working with their government partners, including the Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Aviation Administration, Transport Canada, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, the Canada Border Services Agency, public health agencies, and many more, to increase efficiency, reduce touchpoints, and provide for the health of travelers.

Increased Communications.

Airports are implementing many enhanced and expanded efforts to communicate and connect with their passengers and communities even before they arrive at the airport.  Airports continue sharing important updates and travel tips on their social media channels and websites.  You can also expect increased signage in airports and clear voice and video announcements throughout the terminal to keep passengers informed.
